The firm was appointed by Hulett Aluminium SA to design a weather shield for the new Hot Mill project and upgrade the existing entrance and office-block facade.
The weather shield is a large warehouse structure housing the hot-mill equipment. Its form and structural design provide passive ventilation that naturally cools the building.
Air enters at a low level through the gap between the brick mill wall and aluminium shield. As it rises through convection, it is drawn through large openings at the roof apex, allowing heat generated during the smelting of aluminium ingots to escape.
