Before South Africa’s political transition in 1994, separate entrances were provided for plant workers and office staff. In the post-apartheid era, the company chose to create a single point of entry for all employees.
The existing building comprised two blocks separated by a gap, with administration offices on one side and changing rooms connected to the aluminium mill sheds on the other.
A circular double-volume structure was inserted between the buildings to unite them. A projecting portico clad in Hulabond, a product manufactured at the hot mill, welcomes staff and visitors through the shared entrance.
